We have a thriving and innovative research culture, one that connects our academics to industry, business, government and the third sector in Wales, the USA and internationally.
As a result, our research has real impact and is making a positive difference to the world. From reversing the ravages of Alzheimer’s, to reducing violent crime, to advising China on its phenomenal rate of growth, our community of researchers is helping to create a stronger, healthier and more sustainable world.
We are attracting some of the best international academics, whose success is acknowledged by numerous honours, prizes and awards, including two Nobel Prize winners. Sir Martin Evans won his Nobel Prize for Medicine after being the first to identify embryonic stem cells, something which was widely dismissed as impossible just 20 years before. This pioneering spirit continues to challenge conventional wisdom.
Our research has earned us a reputation for excellence and a place in the Russell Group of leading universities. Our Research innovation and enterprise strategy sets out how we are meeting the challenge to enhance this position on an increasingly international stage. This includes the development of interdisciplinary research institutes and increasing our research income.
